Board of Directors: Volunteer

Call for Board Applications

The Visual Arts Centre of Clarington (VAC) is actively seeking applications for individuals to join our Board of Directors. We are looking for members with diverse experiences and backgrounds to help us shape the VAC team and contribute to the vision and the future of the organization.

Who We Are

The VAC is a not-for-profit public art gallery and art education centre located in Bowmanville, ON. It has a history of community engagement and connecting people of all ages and backgrounds in a creative place for learning and discovery. The VAC is dedicated to the delivery of contemporary art to the Clarington Community, the wider Durham Region, and beyond. The VAC is a safe space where ideas are exchanged, questions are asked, and connections are made. We empower people. We build community. We embrace new ideas. The VAC has provided quality exhibition and educational programming to our community for over 45 years.

What We Do

The Board of Directors is the governing body of the VAC. The Board provides strategic leadership, sets direction, makes policy and strategic decisions, oversees and monitors organizational performance, provides financial oversight and ensures overall accountability. Board members are passionate about the VAC and proud advocates of its programs and services.

Your Commitment

The Board of Directors meets approximately six times per year. Committee meetings are held every other month. Board members are expected to serve on at least one of the following committees: Governance, Finance, Fundraising, Board Recruitment, Human Resources (Ad Hoc), and Strategic Planning (Ad Hoc). Members of the Board of Directors must be members of the VAC (or willing to join), actively participate in functions and special events and educate others about the VAC. The Board is comprised of Ontario-wide residents, with one mandatory in-person meeting per year (annual members meeting).

Term of Office

Board members are elected to a three-year term of office. The term is without compensation. Terms begin in May at our annual meeting and expire at the conclusion of the third annual meeting following their election. A director can serve for two consecutive terms. Following completion of a director’s second term, he or she is eligible for re-election after a one-year waiting period.

Orientation

Following the appointment of a new member to the Board of Directors, an orientation will be conducted. All members of the board are welcome to participate.
If you have any questions about the role or the application process, please contact board@vac.ca and a member of the board will contact you.

Thank you for your interest!
